Motivation helps us start our adventure towards physical development – be that in the gym or outdoors. More importantly though it also helps us stay committed for more than one or two months. In this blog we discuss what motivation is, how to get it, where to find it, and how to keep it.

What is motivation?

It's hard to describe motivation in a few words as for each of us it is often something different, for one person it can be a family, for others a desire to impress friends, and yet another is of people putting their own well-being first. Each of us is motivated by something else so, in short, you can say that motivation is anything that "pushes" us to act.

Where to get motivation?

The main source of our motivation is ourselves. Our goals, as well as dreams that push us to achieve new experiences and become better at what we do. Many people look for external motivation but in practice this is because their actions are not well thought, are easily influenced by external factors and rarely find this a long-term source of motivation. Pressure from other people or outside influences can also have a positive effect on motivation but shouldn’t be relied upon as the initial source.

Is it easy to lose?

Real motivation can never be lost. One can only surrender and live as an unfulfilled person. Inactivity is one of the main reasons why our motivation and willingness to act decrease, so it is worth getting up and starting to work on yourself. Often people wait for motivation to ‘strike’, to drive them to get moving in the first place. This is a false economy. It’s far better to get started on your journey, using your own willpower to overcome that initial inertia, then, once you’ve seen that you can do it, you’ll find motivation to CONTINUE spurs you on.

Where to find motivation?

It depends on where we you at the moment and what is the most important thing for you at the moment. Motivation can be found in the environment around you, we can be motivated by successes achieved by other people, but also by our own achievements. It is worth asking people how they achieved their goals and look at how you can apply that to try to achieve your own goals. Many people are also motivated by social media, e.g., in terms of appearance. We see people with perfect bodies practically everywhere, which can drive our own motivation, because we want to look similar. Be careful with this though. This can need mental discipline on your part to not expect instant results. Social media often neglects the months and years of work it can take, instead making progress look insanely fast. Keep this in mind when you are looking for this kind of motivation.

In conclusion, each of us is motivated by something different. Each of us has different plans and goals in life. It is important to persistently strive for them and not give up, despite failures and setbacks.
